How to flash Android 7.0 Nougat November 2017 Security Update for Canadian Galaxy S6 G920W8:

  1. Download the Nougat 7.0 firmware update files from here.
Make sure to grab the file that matches the carrier your Galaxy S6 device is on.
The main code for this update is G920W8VLS5DQK1.
  2. When the download is done you can extract the archived contents and save them on your PC.
You will obtain the G920W8VLS5DQK1 BL, AP, CP, CSC and HOME_CSC files.
Don’t extract the obtained ‘tar.md5’ firmware update files.
  3. Download Odin 3.12.3 zip from here.
Extract the contents and save them on your PC.
  4. Power off the phone.
  5. Boot it in Download Mode.
  6. Launch the Odin app on your PC.
  7. Connect the phone to PC via usb cable.
Wait for Odin to detect the Galaxy S6 device and then get to the next step.
  8. You need to go to Odin’s main menu and start loading all the firmware update files.
Click BL and load the G920W8VLS5DQK1 BL firmware file.
Click CP and load the CP G920W8VLS5DQK1 file.
Click AP and load the G920W8VLS5DQK1 AP update file.
Click CSC and load the G920W8VLS5DQK1 with HOME_CSC in its name. Don’t load the file with only CSC in its name, as that file will tell Odin to delete the entire data from your device.
  9. When the files are loaded you can simply confirm the update process by hitting the START button in Odin.
  10. When the update is done installing you can see the PASS alert shown by ODIN, and your phone will reboot in normal mode.

Unplug your phone when the update is done and wait for the first boot process to be completed successfully.

If the installation fails you need to repeat the whole tutorial more than once, but make sure not to skip any steps and that your phone meets all requirements.

NOTE:

If the PASS message is shown by ODIN, but your phone enters in a boot loop or it gets stuck at the boot animation screen, then you have top Factory Reset the phone.

The Factory Reset steps are listed below and these should be applied in case you have installed the new update over a custom ROM, too.

Here’s how to Factory Reset the device from Recovery Mode:

  • power off the phone.
  • boot it in Recovery mode.
  • select ‘wipe data/ factory reset’.
  • confirm.
  • reboot device in normal mode and you’re done with this post.
