Xperia Z1 might be an old device but that doesn’t mean you need to upgrade right away. If you are still using your Sony Xperia Z1 as your main driver or if you are using it as a backup option, I might have something important for you – a new update opportunity in form of Android 7.1.2 Nougat OS. So, what do you say, do you want to update your smartphone to the latest Android build? If you do, don’t hesitate and read the lines from below in order to make a proper idea about this new custom ROM firmware.
Yes, it is all about a new custom ROM release. As you might know, Sony already stopped the official support for the Xperia Z1 due to hardware limitations, but that doesn’t mean newer Android ROMs cannot smoothly run on your handset. In that respect, the official Resurrection Remix platform might be just perfect for what you need: a light, fast and easily customizable system pre-loaded with everything that’s new inside the Android 7.1.2 Nougat OS.
The ROM is fully stable so it will run without any sort of problems on the Sony Xperia Z1. Moreover, it brings a pure-like Android 7.1.2 Nougat experience along with different extra capabilities which can afterwards be used for personalizing and optimizing the Android core system. Bottom line, with Resurrection Remix installed your Xperia Z1 should run better and faster than it used to – and the battery life will be also improved.
As you can see, you have all the reasons for trying it out. And if you make a Nandroid backup first you can test the ROM without risking anything else – a Nandroid backup will save the Android OS that already powers your device so, if something will not run properly, you will be able to flash this package for going back to stock.
A custom recovery image is required – both, the Nandroid backup and the actual flashing process can be performed through such software. I recommend you to install TWRP recovery for successfully applying the Resurrection Remix custom ROM from your first attempt.
You should root your Sony Xperia Z1 before updating to Android 7.1.2 Nougat OS. The root operation will unlock the Android OS that already runs on your phone – an unlocked system is required because the new Nougat firmware will have to access, modify and customize it.
A backup is more than recommended especially if you have something important saved on your smartphone. If the backup is not completed you will lose everything that wasn’t there by default – during the Resurrection Remix update process a hard reset will be initiated which means that a full wipe will be performed. So, take care of what’s important for you and secure your contacts, call logs, texts, images, videos and similar other files – by syncing your data with your personal Google account, by using dedicated backup and restore apps from Google Play or by using Sony’s own cloud storage services.
You cannot install Resurrection Remix on the Sony Xperia Z1 unless a manual flashing process is completed. So, a computer or a similar device is required – you won’t have to install risky or complex programs there; the computer is needed only for downloading the required files. On your phone you need to enable Developer Options as the USB Debugging field must be checked – so, first from About Phone go ahead and tap repeatedly on Built Number (after 7 or 10 taps you should receive the ‘you are a developer’ message) and afterwards, access ‘menu – > settings – > developer options’ and check the USB Debugging feature.
You must charge your smartphone. As a general idea, there should be at least 50% power left on your handset before updating to Android 7.1.2 Nougat OS or else your phone might get turned off in the middle of the update operation. If your device will get turned off right in the middle of the steps from below, different problems can cause malfunctions within the Android core system – yes, if you’re not careful enough you can end up in soft-bricking your Xperia Z1.
Use the Resurrection Remix package from below only if you own the Sony Xperia Z1. This tutorial is compatible only with the already mentioned Android based device.
