If you need to apply updates or to perform similar operations on your Huawei P10, download mode will have to be reached. If you don’t know how to complete this process you can use the steps from below. Before detailing the actual steps we will also review other essential aspects which are related with this particular and dedicated Android mode.
Download Mode is a state in which your Huawei P10 can run. This mode cannot run when the Android OS is running so a reboot sequence must be followed – download mode runs independently from the stock mode and cannot be reached by using built-in settings.
As already outlined the download mode can help you manually updating or downgrading your Huawei P10. So, it will be required when associated processes will be needed – for example, if you need to repair Android related problems like screen freeze, total blackouts, hangs, bugs, signal strength problems, heating issues, battery drain and so on.
Of course, going into download mode is an official operation. You won’t lose your phone’s warranty and you won’t have to use any third party apps for completing this process. Also, you can access the download mode on your Huawei P10 by using the steps from below even after gaining root access, installing a custom recovery image (like CWM or TWRP recovery), flashing a custom ROM firmware (such as Linage OS, AOKP, Paranoid Android, etc.), unlocking the bootloader and further more (overall, you can tweak your device in any way possible and you can still access and use download mode).
Of course, since update operations are involved, you should first secure your Huawei P10 by completing a general backup. Saving your data is recommended before each manual operation that you want to initiate on your smartphone. Otherwise you can end up in losing everything that wasn’t there from day one. Usually, personal files can be saved by using built-in cloud storage services (added by your OEM or by your carrier), by syncing the files with your personal Google Account, or by using similar platforms from Google Play.
Another thing that might be required first: verify the power that’s left on your handset and make sure that there is enough juice left or else the Android system can get switched off while you try to access and use the download mode. Unfortunately, if a sudden shut down occurs you might end up in experiencing different soft-related problems on your Huawei P10. That’s why, charging your smartphone isn’t optional – you should plug in the charger if the power left is currently lower than 50%.
The methods explained below were tested on the Huawei P10. While the steps from below might work on other devices too, we recommend you to use this step by step guide only for this particular smartphone. Otherwise you risk in messing things up, so be careful and always stick to the explanations resumed in this guide.
How to Enter Download Mode on Huawei P10
Solution 1 – use hardware keys
- Begin this solution with a power off – press and hold the Power key on your Huawei P10 until the switch off operation is completed; or press Power once and choose “power off”.
- Wait a few moments.
- Now, press and also hold the Volume Up and Volume Down keys; keep pressing these keys for a few moments.
- While still holding down the Volume rocker keys connect your smartphone with your computer.
- Download mode should be now displayed on your Huawei P10.
Solution 2 – execute adb command
This operation can be applied by using a computer – there Android SDK must be installed. So, first of all learn how to install Android SDK on Windows or how to set up ADB on MAC OS X / Linux. Afterwards, install your Huawei P10 drivers on you PC. Good; next, on your smartphone enable the USB Debugging feature or else you might have problems while ensuring the connection between your smartphone and your PC. USB Debugging can be accessed under ‘menu – > settings – > developer options’. If Developer Options cannot be accessed, first of all go to About Phone and from there tap repeatedly on Built Number – the ‘you are a developer’ message should be displayed. Good; finally, follow:
- Power on your computer and access the Android SDK folder.
- Switch on your smartphone and connect it with your computer via USB cable.
- On your computer, from Android SDK open a cmd window: press and hold the Shift keyboard key and right-click on any blank space; then select ‘open command prompt window here’.
- In this cmd window type adb reboot download.
- Press Enter.
- Download Mode should be now reached on your Huawei P10.
Solution 3 – use a dedicated app from Google Play
If you already managed to root your Huawei P10, you can use a third party app from Google Play which can help you easily access your desired mode. For example, you can download the Quick Boot software. Install this app on your smartphone and run it in the end. Afterwards, use on-screen prompts and choose to reboot into download mode.
Those are the methods that can help you reach and use download mode on your Huawei P10.
