The major downside when it comes to the new Lenovo K8 Note is related with the Android system. Don’t get me wrong, the Android system that comes pre-loaded will run smoothly and without issues but, it’s still Nougat and not Oreo. And, there aren’t any official words on when the actual Android 8.0 Oreo OTA will be coming for the K8 Note, which means that some might choose a custom ROM instead.
If you are also thinking in tweaking your device, then we must first discuss about an additional procedure as an unlocked Android system will be required for most of the customizations that are available for your phone. And in that respect we must detail the root operation.
Well, that’s why today I decided to show you how to root the Lenovo K8 Note – this is the first major step that must be applied if you want to unleash the true potential of your Android device and this is the first tweak to apply when trying to replace the stock Android software with a custom ROM firmware like Lineage OS, AOKP or Paranoid Android.
So, gaining root access will help you unlock the Android core system that runs on your Lenovo K8 Note. You will succesfully manage to remove the restrictions that are there by default and you can afterwards choose how to customize, optimize and personalize everything. The goal will be, of course, to bump speeds, upgrade the battery life, improve general performance and run the latest Android system.
Well, these customizations can be obtained by initiating different custom operations, which can be applied only on a rooted system; here are a few examples in that respect: you can install root-only apps, you can flash third-party apps from Google Play or from other sources, you can remove bloatware and start-up programs, you can add new features which aren’t found on the built-in Android system, you can flash custom MODs and kernels and similar other procedures.
Removing factory restrictions and unlocking the Android system are not official initiatives. Thus, gaining root access cannot be associated with Google or with Lenovo. That’s why you are going to lose your phone’s warranty if you decide to resume the steps from below. Don’t worry, the warranty can be afterwards restored but only if you reinstall the stock Android firmware – in that case you will also manage to revoke root access and restore your handset back to its initial state.
During root your data might get corrupted or wiped out. So, don’t take any risk and choose to be precautious – initiate a general backup in order to save your personal data, info, accounts and files (basically, you should take care of everything that wasn’t there from day one). You can backup your data in different ways – the most popular backup and restore solutions are: syncing the files with your own Google Account, using cloud services which are already running on your smartphone, or downloading compatible and already tested apps from Google Play.
Good; now before starting the root operation you should install a custom recovery image on your phone – the root exploit can be installed only through a custom recovery environment. So, go ahead and learn how to install TWRP recovery on the Lenovo K8 Note.
Then, make sure that you can use a computer for downloading the root package. Meanwhile, on your smartphone enable Developer Options – access About Phone and tap, repeatedly for 7 or 10 times, on Built Number (keep tapping until you receive the ‘you are a developer’ message). Then, go to Menu, tap on Settings and access Developer Options as from there you have to check the USB Debugging field.
As always, it’s important to charge your K8 Note before starting any manual operation. In this case you should plug in the charger if the power that’s left is lower than 50% – otherwise, you can skip this additional task. Anyhow, if required, don’t skip the charging process; if you do, your phone might get turned off in the middle of the root operation and in that case you can end up in soft bricking your Lenovo K8 Note.
